Steering

Steering is one of the main systems in a vehicle, which is a set of components and mechanisms designed to synchronise the position of the steering wheel (steering wheel) and the angle of rotation of the steered wheels (in most vehicle models these are the front wheels). The main purpose of steering for any vehicle is to turn and maintain the direction of travel set by the driver.

Principle of steering operation

Each steering wheel is mounted on a knuckle, which is connected to the front axle via a kingpin that is rigidly fixed to the front axle. When the driver turns the steering wheel, the force is transmitted via the linkages and levers to the stub axle, which turns at a certain angle (given by the driver) and changes the direction of travel.
